Once a favourite in the world of mobile phone retail, The Link was a well-known mobile phone and communications retailer specialising in internet-based sales. A British company, The Link + prepay is owned by the UK’s largest consumer electronics retailing group, Dixons. The Link trades exclusively online through a retail website and, as well as offering a host of different new mobile phones, also offers satellite navigation systems as well as broadband internet services.

Initially the brand was used as a service for a variety of mobile phone retail stores, of which 60% were owned by the DSGi group and 40% owned by the telecommunications company O2. In 2006, O2 took over the retail store network entirely, however the website for The Link continued to trade independently of the stores under the DSG ownership up until 2010, when The Link’s website was, for the most part, closed. At this point the website ceased to take new orders through their store and instead directed customers to Dixons sister store, Currys. As a means to continue their prided service to Link customers, the brand left helpful customer service contacts for their prior customers on their website to ensure that any queries could be answered.

Although The Link + prepay is not still trading under this banner, the same level of service and expertise can be sought from Dixons, Currys and O2 respectively, as well as Dixon’s other sister company, PC World.
