Small, Slim, and Simple
The Sony Ericsson T303 is a slender little phone that is good for someone who wants the basics at an affordable price. You’ll also find some nifty features that other small phones lack.
Appearance:
At 93g, this phone is quite small. However, its casing is sturdy—you won’t find any flimsy, creaky plastic materials here. It feels solid and strong in the palm and can withstand a considerable amount of damage. You can also choose between Shimmering Silver and Shadow Black colours. It’s perfect for fitting inside pockets, small purses, even wallets. The buttons glow attractively. Its glossy 1.8 inch 65K colour TFT screen is high quality for what it is, but it’s to be expected that something so small would lack a bit in detail. It has the added bonus of altering its surface when the phone is closed to resemble a mirror. Some may find a few of the phone’s buttons a bit hard to press.
Other Features:
The Ericsson T303’s other features are pretty simple. Internet connectivity consists largely of Bluetooth and USB and it only features a WAP 2.0 XHTML browser. Its memory space fairly small, at a measly 8 megabytes of memory, but the nine hours of talk time, and 400 hours of standby make up for it nicely. It has quadband technology, at GSM 850, GSM 900, GSM 1800 & GSM 1900. You will also find some nice java games as well as the option to download others.
It comes with all of the usual convenient functions, such as an alarm clock, a calculator, a calendar, a stopwatch and timer, and a speakerphone.
Its screen is big enough to be able to text confidently. Also included are MMS and SMS options, and the predictive text will make texting even quicker. Unfortunately, the phone’s keypad is difficult to use. It slides out easily enough, but the buttons are inflexible and it’s a bit tedious to try and hunt for all the letters.
The T303’s camera is simple as well, with only 1.3 megapixels. It functions well, with a 4x digital zoom and a nice viewfinder display. It also features various photo settings as well as options to fiddle around with still and animated wallpapers. However, it lacks a flash and has none of the features the bigger camera phones have, so stick to well lit places.
Though you won’t be able to store much on it, its media player comes with TrackID as well as an FM radio RDS. It’s also compatible with MP3, ACC, and polyphonic ringtones. Unfortunately, the phone is a bit dim as far as sound quality goes.
Verdict: The Ericsson T303’s simple nature makes it an ideal buy for someone new to mobile phones—the phone’s navigation system is uncomplicated and it’s easy to use while still looking chic and more expensive than it actually is. The phone is also suitable for someone who already has a high quality ipod and digital camera and simply wants something small and inexpensive for a mobile phone. The Sony Ericsson T303 may have few features, but what it has works very well.
