Sony Ericsson Satio mobile phone deals Too Good to be True?

Whether you know it as the Sony Ericsson Satio or the Idou, there is no doubt that the phone is certainly packing a punch with its specification details on paper. The only concerns of many reviewers now are whether or not it can translate this impressive résumé into reality. This review puts the Sony Ericsson Satio under scrutiny to see whether or not it can perform under pressure.

The first impressions indicate that this phone has it all and that every single feature has been carefully thought out. The designers of this device have even ensured that the 3.5 inch touch screen has a 16:9 ratio which makes it perfect for viewing widescreen video content.

The camera is overwhelmingly outstanding, with 12.1 megapixels to its name (have you noticed how it pips many camera phones with an extra 0.1’s worth of megapixel?). The lens is accompanied by all the bells and whistles required to make the camera provide an exceptional quality shot, including Xenon flash, autofocus and an obscenely high resolution.

Sony Ericsson Satio was released in early October here in the UK. The candy-bar format is a hit and the fact that every connection under the Sun is possible with this phone has made it a success for all of those people who are picky on how they transfer their data. 8GB of microSD storage has been thrown in with the phone so far and, like most phones, this is expandable to 32GB for those who so please to do so.

Looks-wise, it is quite modest in size when you consider the whopping camera and ensemble which accompanies it on the back of the phone. The video camera which is at the front of the phone is nice and discreet, too. There are a whole host of options on the sides of the phone, including the memory card slots, the connection options and the socket which is used for charging the phone as well as a headphone connector. Unfortunately, Sony Ericsson have remained stubborn and have not provided a generic 3.5mm headphone jack for people to enjoy the Walkman facilities with.

The phone is good-looking, sturdy and is made of high-quality materials. This is complemented by the use of Symbian as the operating system of the phone, with the user interface being tweaked and personalised to an extent by Sony.

It is with the media player that one criticism comes to light. This is because the video player is rather limited in what in can do, with your options for playback and the file formats which are supported being seen to be disappointing. If you are not familiar with the process of converting videos on your computer, you could find watching the video content you like on the Satio to be a challenge.

It may be short of games, but the full Flash support and the glitzy nature of the phone means that you will not be bored of the Sony Ericsson Satio for a good while yet. If the Satio continues to play its cards right, we could be hearing a lot more from this promising device.
