Sony Ericsson Aino mobile phone deals Will It Entertain You?

Sony Ericsson have released a wide range of phones this October and just one of them is the Aino. This phone has placed its whole emphasis on media, with Sony Ericsson making especially sure that the Aino is a phone is the number one choice for those people who are surgically attached to their videos, photos and music – this review will tell you whether or not they have done they have done this successfully.

Now – the first thing that you notice when you take the handset from its box is how simple the front of the model looks. This is at least until you discover the sliding keypad from the bottom of the Aino, which in actuality makes the phone rather long in comparison to other phones (this impressive length could have something to do with the 3-inch screen).

A word for the wise is not necessarily to buy the Aino for its touch screen functionality, as you may be disappointed. This is due to the fact that the handset’s touch screen capabilities only work in certain applications and modes.

Aside from this, it could be easy to assume that this is just another phone with a specification which seems to be dominating the release of mobile phones at the moment. You have the typical good-quality camera (8 megapixels, to be exact), as well as all of the bits and bobs associated with a good camera thrown in (image stabilisers, face detection and smile detection, to name a few); additionally, you also have connection facilities that are desired from a phone at the moment – most notably, Wifi. Then, with all of the media-playing functionality seen with phones at the moment, many could begin to argue that it is simply a carbon copy of all of the other phones on the market – but alas, this is only on paper.

Where the Aino deviates from other devices is in the way that these features are provided. The new media menu is a pleasure to use and simply smacks of Sony’s other counterparts that include the Playstation 3 and the PSP. An interesting development in the Aino is how it is expected that this phone will be able to control a PS3’s multimedia function, in a move similar to the Apple Remote for the iPhone controlling iTunes.

The latest Walkman player is also the star of the show, with Sony Ericsson being considerate enough to take the time to give Aino backwards compatibility to the old media suite. This way, everybody is happy. Another new addition to the Sony Ericsson army is seen as the web browser has been updated too, meaning that users can take advantage of the connectivity options they have been given more easily.

It is clear that Sony Ericsson are upping the ante with the Aino and are trying to give consumers more for their money in these tough financial times. The question is: can all of this (and good telephony!) give the phone a fighting chance in the cut-throat world of mobile phones?
