A Combination Touch Screen Slider That Won’t Leave You Disappointed
The Samsung S8300 combines all the advantages of a slider phone with the sophistication of high quality touch screen phones. With it’s amazing camera, sound system, games, radio, and more, this phone provides goodies that everyone will enjoy without being as complex as many of the monster touch screens.
Appearance:
At 118g, it’s not the smallest phone you’ll ever see, but it’s still slender enough that it’s easy to hold and manipulate. It has a sturdy, solid feel. Better still, its outer casing comes in four gorgeous colours: blue, red, orange, and black, all of which possess a subtle airbrushed quality that gives it a sleek, attractive look. Its number pad slides out smoothly, displaying large, raised buttons for quick dialing.
Its 2.8 inch touch screen features 16 million colours, and while it isn’t as big as many other touch screen phones, it still provides a wealth of beautiful, crisp detail. Better still, the screen responds well to touch, making its user interface fairly finger friendly and simple to use.
Camera:
The Samsung S8300’s camera has many of the same features you’ll see on a high quality camera phone: eight megapixels, auto focus, face detection, smile detection, and even geo-tagging, an option that combines the use of a GPS and Flickr that allows you to tag where your pictures are located as well as when you took them. Our only complaint was the camera’s flash: while it’s dual LED flash works decently, a xenon flash would have been much more powerful.
However, the phone’s gorgeous screen makes making and playing videos an absolute joy. Not only is it able to capture up to thirty frames per second, but you also have a sophisticated video editing program at your disposal. If face-to-face calls are your thing, its 3G video calling system will delight you, both in terms of visibility and sound quality.
Sound:
Its music system may look a bit basic, but it’s more than enough to get the job done. The phone possesses a music player compatible with MP3, AAC, and WMA file formats, an FM radio RDS, and polyphonic and mp3 ringtones. Its additional music storage allows you extra space to keep your tunes. We would have liked to see a 3.5 mm headphone jack, but the phone’s crisp, clear sound makes up for having to use the Samsung issue headphones.
Internet Connectivity:
When it comes to keeping connected, Samsung has you covered. Its quad-band technology allows you to take the phone anywhere. You also have the option of using 3G HSDPA, GPRS, EDGE, and USB as well as a Bluetooth with A2DP. No Wi-fi, but considering the other connections available, this is forgivable. In addition to this, texters will enjoy SMS and MMS, complete with predictive text. The phone’s email client is fairly simple to use. Browsers include WAP 2.0 and XHMTL and HMTL browsers.
Memory:
Some may frown at the 80 megabytes of memory available, but add sixteen gigabytes via a MicroSD memory stick, and you have more than enough space to store your music, games, photos, email, and more. Its four hours of talk time and 350 hours of standby are fairly impressive, considering battery-life sucking features such as the touch screen or the internet. You may need to charge a bit more often than some other phones, but it’s hardly to the point where it would become an inconvenience.
