Attractive, Affordable, and Versatile
The Samsung S7330 is an elegant, many-featured phone, with a variety of applications and traits commonly seen on bigger, more expensive phones. Its sophisticated 3 megapixel camera, speedy internet, and attractive design are sure to satisfy, all while still being easy on your wallet.
Appearance:
The S7330 is sleek and stylish, with sturdy, well built black casing that feels solid and fits solidly in the palm. At 110g, it’s not the thinnest phone on the market, but it isn’t clunky or clumsy feeling. Its 2.2 inch TFT 16 million colour screen is also a popular feature, resulting in sharp, clear detail and vivid brightness. Another plus is its improved conditions in sunlight: unlike many phones, your screen doesn’t turn into a useless mirror when faced with flashes of sunlight, making it easier to use outdoors.
The touchpad navigation pad is also pretty snazzy, with several different sensitivity levels. On the back of the phone, you’ll find a stylish metal battery cover commonly seen on many more expensive phones.
Another neat design feature is the shape of the phone itself. The upper portion glides smoothly upward, revealing an attractive number pad. However, while the number pad buttons are large and clearly visible, their spacing may make it difficult for dialing and texting. The phone compensates for this with their Smart Dialing feature—an option that predicts phone numbers from your list of contacts.
The placement of the menu buttons and call keys can also be a little confusing, especially when you go from using the buttons to using the touchpad. However, when it comes to manipulating the phone, that is largely where the difficulties end—the user interface is very easy to navigate and contains lots of attractive icons and animations.
Camera:
Considering the phone’s price, it’s 3 megapixel camera is very nice indeed, featuring auto focus, a LED flash, face detection, and video recording capabilities. While the LED flash isn’t as powerful as many other cameras, it’s still a high quality camera, especially when used in well lit conditions. You’ll also find a second camera for video conferences and a picture album for storing photos.
Sound:
The S7330’s sound quality is quite good, both for talking and listening to tunes. The music player allows songs in mp3, AAC, eACC+, and WMA formats. You also get an FM Radio RDS and extra music storage. As for ringtones, you can choose between polyphonic and mp3 formats.
The phone also has the handy option of allowing you to minimize your music as you browse the internet, text, or fiddle with other applications. The music interface is fairly simple, allowing you to create playlists and more.
Unfortunately, instead of having the coveted 3.5 mm headphone socket, the S7330 has an adapter instead, allowing it to fit the general needs regarding music and handsfree talking.
Internet Connectivity:
You have lots of options to choose from when it comes to internet connectivity, including 3G HSDPA, Bluetooth® A2DP, USB, EDGE, and GPRS. This makes for speedy, fairly unobtrusive browsing. As for texting, you also have the option of SMS, EMS, MMS, and a fairly simple and convenient email interface, all of which come with predictive text, a useful feature in a phone whose buttons make dialing and texting a bit difficult. Another useful texting tool includes a nice dictionary and an option that automatically saves and resends messages that would otherwise have been lost, should anything interfere with your texting.
With its quad band technology, you are guaranteed to stay connected almost everywhere. (HSDPA 2100 is also available for this purpose.) Browsers include WAP 2.0 XHTML and your standard HTML browser.
Memory:
While 35 megabytes may not sound like an awful lot when it comes to storing songs, games, pictures, and more, you can easily add more with a MicroSD™ memory card. Its seven hours of talk time and 350 hours of standby allows you to explore the phone’s many features without having to worry about charging.
Additional Features:
Along with the usual phonebook, calendar, clock, and alarm, you also get a handsfree speaker phone and a convenient call log letting you know the time, date, and identity of the people you interact with.
If you enjoy games, you’re in for fun. The S7330 has fun free trial versions of popular favourites such as Tetris and Sonic the Hedgehog. The full versions are available for a slight fee.
Verdict: This phone is perfect for the Samsung fan who is short on cash. Its variety of sophisticated features, great sound quality, speedy internet, and fairly competent camera make it a nice deal for someone who wants a lot of the features of bigger, expensive phones for cheap. Some may find themselves irritated with the odd combination of touchscreen and keyed commands, but for most this is something they’re more than willing to overlook.
