A High Quality Camera Phone With Many Sought After Features
Fans of the Samsung Tocco F480 will love the Samsung Pixon. The Pixon is more than just a complex camera phone—it packs a variety of popular, sophisticated features that are sure to please everyone.
Appearance:
At 121g, it’s certainly not meant to be a phone that lives in your back pocket, but that doesn’t take away from its overall size and attractiveness. It fits well in the palm without being too heavy, and its buttons are easily accessible and easy to press. Its casing is sturdy and strong, and its 3.2 inch touch screen is simply stunning.
Screen: The Pixon’s TFT 262k colour touch screen does more than compliment the photography elements of this phone. It is a wonderfully detailed, crisp, clear screen that responds well to touch and has a variety of functions that are just plain neat looking, with lots of tapping, dragging, dropping, and sliding. Its high definition makes activities such as surfing the net, viewing pictures, and watching videos a breathtaking experience.
Camera:
The crown jewel of the Pixon, its 8 megapixel camera is one of the most sophisticated phone cameras on the market today. It packs a variety of sought after features, such as auto focus, face detection, smile detection, an image stabiliser, and geo tagging for the phone’s GPS. The panorama shot allows you to pick your favorite from a series of pictures, allowing you to judge just the right one. Its LED flash isn’t quite as powerful as a Xenon, but it does the job wonderfully regardless. Its video is pretty amazing as well. The video player supports MPEG4, WMV, XviD, DivX, H263, and H264 formats. Its QVGA video recorder captures up to 120 frames per second and even allows you to play it back in slow motion. Its second camera, located on the front of the phone, makes for convenient hands-free video calling.
Sound:
The Pixon’s music player supports MP3s, WMA, eAAC+, and AMR. Its surround sound system makes it rank very high in terms of sound quality, and its Equaliser allows you to fiddle with the settings until you get it just the way you want it. Add an RDS issue FM radio and polyphone and MP3 ringtones and you have an awesome sound system that’s easily comparable with some of the higher ranking music phones. The only thing we found lacking was that it doesn’t have a 3.5 mm jack.
Connectivity:
The Pixon is booking when it comes to speedy internet connections. Along with having a rocking web browser, it also comes with 3G HSDPA, Bluetooth, USB, EDGE, and GPRS to help you stay connected. (In fact, we find the only thing keeping it from being perfect is its lack of a Wi-Fi connection.) Its GPS is pretty handy as well, featuring geo tagging as well as a function that allows for GPS to function over SMS. Speaking of texting, you’ll find MMS with predictive text as well as a nice email interface that’s easy to use and fairly reliable.
Memory:
With 200 megabytes, this phone has plenty of space to store your favorite songs, emails, movies, and photos. You can also get up to eight gigabytes of extra space with a MicroSD memory card. The 3.5 hours of talk time may not sound like a lot, but the 290 hours of talk time more than makes up for it.
Verdict:
The Samsung M8800 Pixon is a stylish, sophisticated phone with a variety of popular, reliable features. Its high quality casing will ensure the phone lasts. Whether or not you’re a camera enthusiast, this phone will be sure to delight and amaze you.
