An Attractive, Affordable Music Phone
The Samsung M7600 Beat DJ is an innovative music phone with a unique twist: you can actually create DJ beats on it! Whether you’re a music enthusiast or an actual DJ, this feature alone will appeal to a variety of users. Combine that with its AMOLED screen, neat exterior casing, snazzy camera–and of course its ornate music system, and you have a fun, interesting mobile that will surely attract attention. Its price isn’t unreasonable either. It’s not without its flaws, however.
Appearance:
Its rounded shape, bright colours, and gorgeous 2.8 inch AMOLED TFT 16 Million colour touchscreen are all flashy, attention grabbing features. At 99.7g, it’s also super slim and easily fits in your back pocket. Its user interface could use some work, though, as inconsistencies and difficulty texting quickly. However, its screen is pleasantly responsive and easy to manipulate, and the Symbian operating system fits this mobile very well indeed.
Sound:
It makes sense that a music inclined phone is packed with features, and this phone has it in spades. There are the essentials, such as the 3.5mm headphone jack and quality stereo speakers. The Beat DJ application is a fun way to add a new twist to your tunes. There have been complaints about the touch screen music controls, however, as seeming confusing. The sound quality is great, but it isn’t as crisp or clear as some other phones. For its price range, however, these quirks are largely ignorable.
Camera:
Its 3 megapixel camera is surprisingly well stocked with goodies, including red eye reduction, an image stabiliser, smile detection, and geo tagging as well as auto focus and a LED flash. These result in great pictures that show up vividly against the touchscreen. Its video recording capabilities are of good quality as well.
Internet Connectivity:
While we would have loved to see Wi-Fi included with this mobile, there are still plenty of ways to stay connected, including 3G HSDPA, Bluetooth with A2DP, USB, EDGE, and GPRS. Also included is a handy A GPS navigation, a series of downloadable games, and a WAP browser as well as XHTML and HTML.
Memory and Talk Time:
Unfortunately, when it comes to space and battery life, the Beat doesn’t quite meet up. You get 50 megabytes, which you’ll likely need to supplement with a microSD card. Fortunately, it can carry up to 16 gigabytes, which should leave you with a decent amount of space. You only get 5 hours of talk time and 250 hours of standby time, but considering all of its battery eating features and applications, it’s little surprise that you’ll need the cord close by.
Conclusion:
Its affordable price, unique DJ Beat feature, satisfying camera, and awesome screen and exterior casing make this phone a must for someone who wants something unusual. We also think it would make a cute gift for any DJs in your life. Its low power and memory might be a bit of a let down, though, and its sometimes strange user interface is definitely something Samsung could improve on.
