Samsung D900 - More Than A Camera: A Great Multi-Purpose Phone

The Samsung D900, available in both black and red, is one of the most impressive phones on the market for a whole host of reasons. Not only is it extremely compact and thus practical for transportation, it is also practical in that it has extremely impressive features that are combined with a few quirks to make it much more personal than most other phones. In effective, it is not just your phone but also your best friends, and that is something you can say about very few phones today.

In a world where most branded phones try to make a statement in a specific way, the Samsung D900 makes a statement as a result of its all round charm and usefulness. It is an extremely compact slider that fits into your pocket easily but, believe it or not, is easy to extend, even for the chunkiest of fingers. The sliding mechanism is smooth and clears the keypad by a centimetre or so, thus ensuring that you don’t encounter any major problems physically texting.

The D900 looks extremely stylish, with a TFT screen that displays 262,000 colours with a startling quality. Images are bright and crystal clear as a result, and the brightness is adjustable in case you encounter any difficulties. However, this doesn’t tend to work that well in direct sunlight.

The MP3 player on the D900 is astonishingly good. Not only does it have repeat and shuffle modes and excellent sound quality, you can actually have it playing in the background so you can text and operate the phone to your favourite tunes. This does cut out when a call comes in though, thus avoiding the host of problems that could come as a result! The 80MB internal memory is great for storing songs and can be supplemented by a microSD card to bump that up even further.

The camera on the D900 deserves a special mention. It is a whopping 3MP and delivers the highest quality pictures of any phone out there. It also has auto focus and a whole range of options to choose from to get the best out of your pictures. The camera also has video capabilities, which you can then output on a TV is you want to show everyone what you’ve been up to!

The size of the D900 may be good for a lot of reasons but does prevent it from doing more. The sheer smallness of the phone and the size of the camera leave very little room for anything else. It is not a 3G phone for example. Having said that though, it does have A2DP capability so you can stream songs wirelessly through a bluetooth headset, which undoubtedly makes up for it.

The keypad also provides a slight niggle. When text message are composed, users may have difficulties finding the punctuation required as well as differentiating between capitals and numbers (the key to change to both is the same). Whilst not a major problem, anyone that loves to text will be immediately put off.

Overall, the Samsung D900 is an exceptional phone that will please almost everybody. The features and functionality are awesome, as is the practicality of the handset. You would have to go a long way to find a phone that can do exactly what the D900 does but better!
