Samsung D800 - The Phone That’s Not Just A Pretty Picture

.

Samsung D800 Samsung has been an innovator in the mobile phone world for some time now. The D800 is Samsung’s latest offering and tries to combine the qualities of the D600 with bigger and better functionality, but is it successful?

The Samsung D800, available in black, pink and white, definitely looks the part. The discreet slider makes the phone look more compact and renders it easier to handle without affecting its functionality any. It also showcases the magnificent screen, and that is the feature that gives the handset a sexy edge. Aesthetics aside, it displays 262,000 colours in a QVGA resolution and images, as a result, will blow your mind.

The D800 doesn’t only cater for users who love imaging via the screen. Everything about the D800 caters for the picture loving public! The 1.3 MP camera may not match up to the 2MP camera of its rivals but its functionality is amazing. Colours are bright, images are crisp and clear, and the phone can tie each picture in knots! You can edit, resize and add emoticons onto them before sending them direct to a photo printer via Bluetooth!

The D800 has a few other nice touches, including very effective voice dialling, music capabilities including MP3, TV-out adapter, 80MB memory with a memory card slot built in and WAP connectivity. The list of specifications is amazing and seems to go forever, but the handset is not without its faults.

One minor potential problem with the phone is the D800 keypad. The buttons on the low level of the slider are quite compact but don’t pose much of a problem for texting and calling. Instead, it is the C button that proves to be awkward because it is directly under the navigation button on the upper level. It is easy to press it by mistake and makes the menus more difficult to navigate than the set up would have you believe.

The battery life is another minor niggle. Samsung boast of 220 hours standby and 3 hours talk time for the D800. If you half both of those figures then the estimates would be more realistic. However, for moderate or light phone users, this wouldn’t really have much of an impact on use.

The Samsung D800 is a good all round phone that adds a touch of class for users looking for the special something in a handset. The emphasis placed on its imaging capabilities may put users looking for music or connectivity as a primary requirement but both are added to the mix in good measures. Whatever you are looking for, this baby can definitely deliver!
