The gold exterior of the Samsung B7620 is certainly eye-catching, perfect for anybody wanting to make a statement. Some may say it’s over the top – but it ultimately comes down to personal choice.
Also set against a gold backdrop are the QWERTY keypad buttons, which adds to the overruling sense of glitziness, provided by the mobile. The sliding keyboard itself works well and has obviously been designed with ergonomics in mind. We appreciated the spacious, comfortable buttons, which made typing a simple pleasure.
Yet another attention-grabbing feature of the phone is the sheer size of the handset, which practically damages the scales at a substantial 164 grams. The phone is also thicker than average, which is to be expected from such a heavy phone.
The Giorgio Armani-inspired Samsung is equipped with a modified version of Windows Mobile 6.1, which can be upgraded to the new 6.5 if desired.
Something we particularly favoured was the ‘work and leisure’ mode employed by the phone, which again expresses that this Samsung model would be a perfect choice for a businessman. By a simple click, the user can change from a work-based home screen to a personal life interface - a great way to divide the worlds of work and play!
Both home menus (work or leisure) allow the owner to visit a vast array of sub-screens, which include the phonebook, messaging, a camera, a calendar and a FM radio.
Now, to the 5-megapixel shot-taker, which looks highly impressive on paper. The powerful dual LED flash, autofocus and VGA video thrown in can amount to a great camera, with the extra features found in the camera menu including smile and face detection, as well as a range of various special effects. Many of which allow you to transform your detailed shots in to unique masterpieces. All things considered, the Samsung B7620 appears to excel in the camera and video department.
The Samsung supports most types of connection, HDSPA, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 2.0 with A2DP to name but a few and, from what we can see, the Samsung B7620 Giorgio Armani is a quality phone which is fitted with a fantastic camera and a wide range of connectivity options. In our opinion, it is the bulky, over-the-top design that spoils what is otherwise a top performer, but perhaps that’s what the ‘in’ crowd are looking for. You decide!
RATING: 3.5/5 – When Samsung announced that they were about to attempt to combine the industries of fashion and technology, the experts of the mobile phone industry all had their doubts. Contrary to initial thoughts, the reviewers of the industry have to concede that Samsung and Armani have teamed up to do a decent job. We’re not so sure about the bulky and flashy design, but the ergonomics, 5-megapixel camera and other multimedia features are quite impressive. All in all, we believe that this phone could prove quite a hit with the fashion conscious crowd, as well as members of the business profession.
