When active, Phones2udirect featured a clear and easy to browse website, and free next day delivery. They stood out with a comprehensive range of up to 12 months free mobile deals in the UK. Unfortunately, like several other retailers during this period (2006-2008), the intense competition led to them being overly aggressive with their discounts. Eventually, the large cashback amounts proved to be unsustainable, and Phones2udirect began having problems paying them out.

Customer complaints began to accumulate, and eventually the company went into voluntary liquidation. As several other online phone retailers went bust at this time, this prompted Ofcom to intervene and establish some guidelines concerning cash back and redemption deals.
