O2 Losing its Exclusive iPhone Deal in October
September 5th, 2009 | Mobile Phones, iPhone, O2

If you’re an Apple iPhone 3G user on an O2 network, you may need to be making some changes before October. Reports reveal that O2’s exclusive deal with the iPhone is to reach its official end on October 9th.
However, if you’ve been with O2 long, this shouldn’t come as a big surprise. You’ve likely held witness to its gradual downward spiral, suffering through everything from repeated network crashes to considerably reduced connection speeds.
Orange has also soured its customers further still thanks to its sudden price increase scheduled for September 1st. Fortunately, according to CNET, their terms of service allows you to escape this particular travesty by simply canceling your contract before the prices change.
While Orange believes their customer base will remain strong, sources say that many users are complaining that they aren’t receiving the quality service that they paid for, and with good cause.
Despite this, O2 is determined to carry on to the bitter end. Mobile Entertainment states that O2 retains the rights to market and sell the iPhone 3GS until 2012, and they are determined to continue doing so.
Reports also state that T-Mobile is selling their iPhone 3G mobiles to the higher paying customers. Given their extremely limited number of phones, only 150 customers a week will be able to get their hands on one. The exact number of headsets they have remains unknown.
If you’re looking for a way to get a good deal out of this situation, don’t lose hope. You don’t have to fling out sacks of money in order to get a better deal on the iPhone 3GS—and without chaining yourself to an 18 month contract to boot. Check it out for more information.
