Nokia X6 mobile phone deals The First Of Its Kind

Weighing in at a pretty-average 122g, the X6 is an attractive handset finished in opaque, glossy plastic. Although this plastic appears to be firm and not flimsy, we were left disappointed at the absence of metal features on the phone. Considering that it would set you back €500, the least you’d expect would be a bit of steel here and there to give it a boost in the looks department, as well as making it more damage resistant.

Here we go – the big one. We’ve got to admit, we were waiting with bated breath for Nokia to add a capacitive touch-screen handset to their range, and they have duly delivered here. We were immediately impressed with the 3.2”, 360 x 640 resolution screen due to its roominess and ease of navigation. It also ticked all the boxes for accuracy - living up to the well-known claim that capacitive screens are the most exact. A gentle touch is all that is required to register a click on the phone, which despite making navigation easier, also made using the phone whilst wearing gloves or material impossible.

Screen responsiveness The sensitivity of the screen (or rather, the lack of it) was a bit disappointing and unresponsive at times, taking what felt like an age to react to the touch. Presumably, this comes down to the software that the phone uses rather than the quality of the touch-screen itself. Camera The images produced by the 5-megapixel camera were fairly good, despite the interface itself being confusing and difficult to use. Adding to the problems was the absence of modern camera features. We desperately wanted to see things like smile detection and blink prevention on the phone, but we were again left dissatisfied. Considering that other phones on the current market could deliver us this for half the price, we felt as if our grumpiness was justified. All of this said, the so-so video recorder softened the blow a bit, as it included the vast majority of features that you would expect to see. Conclusion All in all – a decent little phone. Nothing spectacular, but simply what you would expect from a touch-screen mobile of its generation. To be fair to the creators – this is Nokia’s first capacitive touch handset, so we should be mindful of this before writing it off altogether. The fact that it offers a full range of connectivity options, including EDGE, GPRS and 3G with HSDPA bolsters its campaign somewhat, as does the fantastic audio quality (a key feature of most members of the XpressMusic family). Mix in a good camera, decent video recorder and some touch-screen magic and you’ve got yourself a mobile which fulfils all of your basic needs – and some more! We really think that Nokia may have created something that can be built upon here, but it definitely needs more attention and thought put in to it. After all: practice makes perfect.
