Nokia N70 – The Best Of Both Business And Pleasure Worlds
Established in its provision for the business world, Nokia have designed their N series specifically to try and attract the general public to their phones. The N70 does this with a good degree of success. It is compact with clean lines and has a distinct universal appeal. Although it is not the prettiest of phones, it doesn’t need to be.
The N70 has an unusual appearance because of the stainless steel bezel that surrounds the keypad and screen. It highlights both to their best advantage. The keypad is extremely well set out and easy to use, and the screen is of the usual high Nokia standard. It is 176×208 pixels and, as a result, displays 262,000 colours with great clarity. One great feature of the screen is that it not only has adjustable brightness, but a light sensor also determines how bright the screen should be depending on the light condition thus saving you the hassle!
The N70 has a range of excellent features, most of which have now come to be expected of any phone. Bluetooth, USB connectivity, 2MP camera, 3G video calling, MP3 and FM radio are all essential features of the N70 and are applied with success. Unfortunately, all of the above eat into the battery quite quickly. As a result, you should only expect the phone to last for 3 hours of talk time.
All of the above also pose a problem for the N70 with regards to its memory. It only has 22MB of memory and, although the handset does come with a 64MB memory card as part of the deal, that is not nearly enough to enjoy the phone to the full.
The memory also has a direct impact on the N70’s ability to download documents, thus reducing its capabilities as a business phone. The screen doesn’t help this matter either, as its medium resolution is not strong enough to support Office technology.
Despite these niggles, the N70 has some lovely touches. It has excellent speaker independent name dialling, which only falters in particularly loud background noise circumstances, thus saving the user time looking for a name in the menu. Video calling also proves to be a big hit on this phone. Other Nokia models have faltered with poor reception or grainy feed, but this model does not succumb to similar problems.
The Nokia N70 is a solid phone; there can be little doubt about that. However, its attempt to mix business with pleasure does falter somewhat. For everyday use, this phone is strong and very capable with few faults. Nokia has certainly put some thought into what its customers want and the N70 is the excellent result.
