Fun and Inexpensive
In a world filled with iphone clones and mobiles packed with every complicated feature and flashy detail imaginable, the Nokia 6600 Slide is a breath of fresh air. Slim and attractive, it is a mobile that has a variety of convenient features without being overwhelming.
Appearance:
The Nokia 6600 Slide is a small, slender little phone that easily fits in a pocket, purse, or briefcase. Its glossy black casing is accented with chic hints of blue bordering the buttons and highlighting keypad keys. The keypad slides out smoothly. For all its size, it fits nicely in the palm, though at 110g, some may find it a bit heavy. Its 2.2 inch screen features sixteen million colours, making it a prime phone for viewing photos, videos, and websites.
The keypad is a bit unfriendly toward those with big fingers, but all in all the buttons are easy to press and are easily distinguishable from one another.
An additional feature to this mobile is that it responds well to touch. Like the 6600 Fold, you can screen and reject calls, mute the ringtone, or mute the alarm with a simple tap.
Sound:
The mobile’s media player supports MP3s, MP4s, AAC, eAAC+, and WMA as well as a nifty FM radio. You also get a variety of ringtone formats to choose from—polyphonic, MP3, AAC, and eAAC+. You also get the option of video ringtones as well, which pairs well with the phone’s awesome OLED screen.
The only downside to this is that the speaker makes it so that sometimes you can accidentally muffle your phone. The speaker, located on the back of the phone, is significantly reduced if you put it on a desk with the speaker facing down.
Camera:
The Nokia 6600 Slide has an awesome camera, with 3.2 megapixels and a curiously strong double LED flash. Its dedicated capture key aids in capturing just the right shot. The camera also features 8x digital zoom, a video recorder, a sophisticated video player, video streaming, and video chatting options. Macromedia Flash Lite 3.0 makes editing and adding effects to your photos easy and fun.
Connectivity:
You won’t find anything flashy like HDSPA or Wi-fi connection on this phone, but you do get 3G, Bluetooth, a Micro USB, and EDGE as alternative options. You get a ton of messaging options, including SMS, MMS, Nokia Xpress Audio messaging, and a variety of popular instant messengers, such as AOL. ICQ, and MSN. As for browsers, you can choose between the WAP 2.0 Browser, XHTML Browser, or the Opera Mini Browser. The Nokia Maps won’t replace a GPS, but they’re still very convenient. Its email interface is fairly simple to use and allows for attachments. Incidentally, you can also find a selection of fun Java and downloadable games as well.
Memory:
The Nokia 6600 Slide’s features twenty megabytes of memory, which may not seem very much, but when you combine the MicroSD, you can add up to 512 additional megabytes, making it easier to store your music, downloads, and attachments. Charge time, in comparison, is average—you get three hours of talk time and 240 hours standby. For more frequent users, this may be something of an inconvenience, but for the most part, charging isn’t a big distraction.
Verdict:
This is a wonderful phone for a first-time Nokia user. Its easy user interface and straightforward features make it simple to learn how to use. Combine this with its fun camera and speedy internet and you have a phone that is fun, stylish, and fairly inexpensive.
