Nokia 6288 – Revolution Or Evolution?
Never a company to shy away from innovative products, Nokia have consistently garnered a reputation for leading the mobile phone market when it comes to new products. However, recently both users and competitors alike have said that the Finnish giants are losing their touch. With the Nokia 6288, they may have a point.
Firstly, the positives, of which this mobile phone has many. Like all the best Nokia designs, the 6288 looks as good as it works. With all the buttons save the key operation ones hidden behind a sliding screen, the phone looks unobtrusive and compact, yet still manages to fit in a 320 x 240 pixel screen which offers sharp pictures and images.
At only 100 mm tall, 46 mm wide and 21 mm deep, the 6288 is small enough to fit into either a small laptop case or a jacket pocket, which is exactly the type of consumer Nokia seems to be aiming for here - not too serious a business mobile phone user, but not at the bottom end of the market either. And with the 6288 being a 3G phone, this also allows for video calls between offices.
The memory on the Nokia 6288 is pretty good – as a newer version of a slightly older model, the 6288 has been given an improved mini SD card that holds up to 512 MB of information and files. There’s also the ability to upgrade this even more, with a more than healthy 2GB card available. Regardless of what information you need to store on it, the Nokia 6288 mobile phone has more than enough space for you.
The web browser also supports the latest version of WAP 2.0, so you can view websites heavy in HTML, a bonus for the business user. However, one of the surprising things about this phone is that it’s only tri-band, which for a businessman could possibly be a disadvantage.
This isn’t the only niggle. One of the issues that its little brother, the Nokia 6280, had was that the sliding screen could get caught on your pocket and switch the phone into dial mode, making accidental calls and not only costing you money, but eating into your battery as well. This is the same here, and you’ll need to exercise just a little bit of caution.
Although not one of the sexiest mobile phones in the Nokia range, the 6288 is a solid phone for small-to-medium business users and offers a good selection of features into the bargain. Just make sure you don’t call your boss accidentally when having a day off!
