Motorola have certainly made a splash in the mobile phone market in recent years as a result of a number of cutting edge technology phones they have released have advanced the market no end. The RAZR was perhaps the first one to do so but they have consistently released effective phones to keep the brand going strong. The Motorola ROKR E8 is Motorola’s latest offering and comes with the promise that it will blow all other music phones out of the water, but does it?
The Motorola ROKR E8 undoubtedly has a lot of strengths. The first of which is obviously its music capabilities. The brand new ModeShift technology that the phone incorporates is revolutionary and provides a whole new way in which you can operate your mobile. The technology itself changes is actually related to the keypad, which changes depending on the function or feature you are using at any given time. With the music feature, you have the choice of buttons marked Back, Play/Pause, Forwards, Repeat and Shuffle, and this just supplements the high quality of the music coming out of your phone. It supports most music formats as well so you can listen to all of your favourite tunes in high quality sound and control the playlist all at the same time!
The appearance of the phone is also fantastic, given that it is a sleek phone with smooth lines. The Motorola ROKR E8 is a beautiful phone that will appeal to the vast majority of people. There are no patterns or quirks to put people off at all. Although the casing does tend to be attractive to fingerprints, it is slim and easy to carry around with you every day. The screen is also rather unusual but very endearing as it is a landscape 2″ QVGA screen rather than a regular portrait one. Strangely, this looks extremely attractive!
There are plenty of features packed into the Motorola ROKR E8, including the great connectivity offered by bluetooth, USB and all of the usual options. It does not benefit from the presence of Wi-Fi or 3G capabilities though, both of which are notably absent. However, there are some poorer features that seem to have been slapped on there to give the phone everything, of which the camera is one. The 2MP camera is not as powerful as on other phones but that is not why it lets the user down. Instead, it is because the quality of the images is rather poor. This will not please those who think a camera is essential but if a camera is just an added extra or the music is the main attraction then this should not make much of a difference.
Overall, the Motorola ROKR E8 is very good at what it does well but not so good with features that seemed to have been tagged on for good measure. The music is excellent and the 2GB built in memory will hold more than enough tunes for your playlists. As such, it is worth consideration for the music fan.
