More Mobile Phone Brands
The UK mobile phone market is dominated by a handful of manufacturers: Apple, Blackberry, Nokia, Sony Ericsson, Samsung, and HTC, with LG and Motorola rounding it off.
However there are other manufacturers making handsets, ranging from the networks themselves, to Google and brands making novelty phones. Here are the smaller phone manufacturers.

A couple of manufacturers have focused on the budget end of the market, e.g. Alcatel and Acer, who make cheap but functional phones. As the baseline for a ‘budget phone’ has risen, it has become possible to get a very capable device at a very low cost.
Network-branded phones like the Vodafone 543 or Orange San Francisco, come at a lower cost and often represent good value. If you want a decent midrange phone, these can be good options.
Other manufacturers focus on niche and novelty phones, for example Swap with it’s watch-phone hybrids. JCB has carved out a market for itself with its rugged outdoor phones, sporting shock absorbtion and waterproofing.
Google’s handsets come in at the high end - its first Nexus One smartphone was a bit uneven, but with the Nexus S, it has created a genuine flagship Android phone. Google is now established as a phone brand to be noted.
