A Budget Phone That’s Sadly Lacking in Features
Alas, the LG A140 isn’t the sort of budget phone that tries to make its features cover all possible bases. If anything, this mobile is a bit too basic, lacking essential features that will disappoint many users. However, it’s still quite usable, and if you’re someone who likes their phones dead simple, it may very well be a cheap alternative to higher end phones.
At first glance, the A140 looks like it could be an attractive phone. Pick it up, however, and you’ll find a host of subtle flaws, such as cheap plastic and flimsy casing. At 73g, it is light and slender, but not in the way that most users prefer. It feels delicate and cheap in your hands, and its alphanumeric keypad isn’t the most finger friendly one on earth either. It screen doesn’t redeem its appearance any either—at only 1.7 inches, it’s dim and blurred. It’s not so flawed as to be unreadable, but its overall quality is definitely enough to annoy.
Other features include a basic music player. Unfortunately, with no 3.5 mm headphone jack, you can’t use your own headphones. To make matters worse, the set of headphones that come with the phone are uncomfortable and have an absolutely horrid sound quality. Its VGA camera is a bit better equipped, but with no flash, the photos will turn out grainy and blurred in darker settings.

Its internet related goodies are few and far between, including Bluetooth, GPRS, EDGE, and USB. Its keypad doesn’t lend much in the way for easy texting or typing, but you can download a few interesting games with little trouble.
Its memory is absolutely deplorable, with only 7MB of internal memory. Unfortunately, there’s no real way to boost this either. On the plus side, having so little to clutter up the phone results in a truly phenomenal battery life—you’ll be able to go for several days without having to charge.
So what’s good about the A140? Its slim size makes it easy to store almost anywhere as long as there’s no risk of it falling out of a pocket or being sat on. While the quality of the plastic may cause noses to wrinkle, it’s not a hideous phone—simply plain and basic. If you like your phones this way, it might actually work in your favor. Its enormous battery life is also a giant plus—perhaps the phone’s only significantly positive feature.
If you’re someone who needs a spare mobile, something cheap and basic to store in the glove compartment, a temporary replacement while you save up for something more expensive, or simply a phone that has minimal features and a decent interface, this is a phone worth considering. You might not enjoy its looks or its overall set of specifications, but it’s good enough for a temporary run or as an emergency phone.
For the most part, casual users or users who simply don’t care what their phone does as long as it works may not mind or notice the significant absences and flaws. While it’s not the most elegant, user friendly, or well designed phone on the market, there are mobiles that are much, much worse.
