A Smart Phone That’s Packed With Features
Viewers familiar with the Touch Diamond will be thrilled with the improvements made on the HTC Touch Diamond 2. Not only does it do a wonderful job at fixing many of the flaws of its predecessor, but it has an assortment of new goodies as well.
Appearance:
Its appearance is one of its strong points. At 117g, it is incredibly thin, making it easy to slip into your back pocket, purse, briefcase, and more. The phone’s enormous 3.2 inch 65k colour WVGA LCD touch screen is also a definite plus. Not only is it huge, with impeccable, crisp detail and a glossy finish, but the screen is responsive to touch without being oversensitive.
The phone is also quite user friendly; its updated version of TouchFLO technology lacks the previous mobile’s awkward navigation issues and slowness.
The phone also fits nicely in the palm and has a sturdy, luxurious feel. As for the buttons, they are easy to find and raised slightly, allowing for quick maneuverability.
Sound:
Unlike the preceding phone, the HTC Diamond 2’s sound quality is crisp and clear. It also has a variety of fun features, such as an FM radio, polyphonic and mp3 ringtones, and a music player that is compatible with AAC, AAC+, eAAC+, QCP, MP3s, WMA, WAV, and MIDI tunes.
Unfortunately, users may be disappointed by the lack of a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Camera:
The phone’s camera, while lacking a flash, does have a variety of other goodies, including 5 whopping megapixels. Also included is an auto focus option and a photo album. The camera also has lots of improvements on its video recording capabilities, complete with a separate VGA CMOS camera. You also get to play with a video player that hosts an assortment of formats, a video album, and 3G video calling.
While the flash makes taking pictures in dark and gloomy places somewhat difficult, the quality in well lit areas is very good indeed.
Connectivity:
When it comes to staying connected, the HTC Diamond 2 has everything you need, including quad band technology and HSDPA 900 & 2100. You also get 3G HSDPA, Wi-Fi®, Bluetooth®, GPRS, and EDGE as internet connectivity options. You can even use the USB to hook up through your PC or laptop. The HTML browser is fairly simple to navigate as well.
Also included is a handy email client with attachments, IM, SMS, and MMS.
Storage and Battery Life:
When it comes to having enough space to store your email attachments, songs, photos, and videos, the HTC Diamond 2 has more than enough room for everything you need. Not only do you get 512 megabytes of ROM and 288 megabytes of RAM, but you also get additional microSD storage as well.
With 5.6 hours of GSM talk time and 500 hours of DSDPA standby time, you should have more than enough time between charges to enjoy your phone. However, as the screen, the user interface, and other features tend to take up a lot of energy, it may be wise to keep a charger on hand.
Verdict: The HTC Diamond 2 is a definite improvement over the HTC Diamond. Its improvements on its size, screen, and overall usability make it a mobile to consider for your wishlist.
