A Sturdy Phone With Diverse Options

The HTC T-Mobile G1 mobile is certainly catching attention as one of the iphone’s leading competitors. With both a gorgeous, high tech touch screen and a QWERTY keyboard, this phone leaves a variety of options for gadget lovers to play with. However, the question remains, is it for everyone?

Appearance:

In comparison to sleeker, more colourful phones, users might find the T-Mobile G1 to be somewhat lacking. While many will like its black or white exterior, the curved corners, and the gorgeous 3.2 inch 65k colour LCD touch screen, some may find how the lower portion of the screen is shaped to be aesthetically displeasing.

It’s also incredibly bulky at a whopping 158g. The designers have gone all out to make this phone as durable as possible, even adding protective covers to the microSD expansion slot and USB port.

One of its most interesting traits is the option to use either the touch screen or the QWERTY keyboard, which swings out smoothly. The phone’s keys and other basic buttons are sensibly arranged and easy to press.

 
 
Camera:

When it comes to cameras, this phone has the absolute bare bones basics. With only 3.2 megapixels and autofocus, it’s enough to snap photos on the go, but its lack of a flash, video options, and other goodies make it something of a disappointment if you’re looking for a high quality camera.

Sound:

Sound quality is less than perfect, as it has a tendency to be tinny and difficult to hear under certain circumstances. Like the camera, the phone’s music capabilities are enough to get by on, but it’s hardly something that will replace your mp3 player. Sadly, you’ll find no 3.5 mm headphone jack either.

Connectivity:

When it comes to internet connectivity, the T-mobile G1 has you covered, with quad band technology as well as HSDPA 2100. Internet options include Bluetooth® GPRS, EDGE, or Wi-Fi. A mini USB port allows you to hook up via your laptop or PC.

Verdict:

However, while T-Mobile did a great job of implementing an awesome touch screen as well as many of Google’s useful features, its poor battery life and sporadic sound quality makes it apparent that there is still progress to be made.
