A Top Quality Android Touch Screen Phone
The HTC Legend has something in it for everyone, whether you’re a gadget lover, someone who wants constant access to their social networking sites, or simply someone who likes a wealth of different flashy features on their phone. While it has its awkward bits, all in all this is a phone that’s definitely worth considering.
Appearance:
Solid and attractive, the Legend’s outer casing is truly a wonder. Not only is it made of aluminum, which virtually guarantees that it will outlast most of its plasticky peers, but its sleek black and white design gives it a very modern, high tech look. Combine that with its 3.2 inch 16 million colour capacitive AMOLED touch screen and its finger friendly track pad and you have a design that can’t be beat. At 126g, its big without being bulky or unwieldy.

As for user interfaces, it features the Android 2.1 combined with Sense, resulting in an interface that has all of the features of Android, but with a few extra goodies, such as the Friends Stream, which combines live updates of Twitter and Facebook. Unfortunately, while fun to use, this is an example of where the Legend could use some polish, as there have been complaints about lagging updates. There are other weird inconsistencies with smaller widgets as well that could use some ironing out. That aside, its large, responsive screen combined with its user friendly operating system, makes using it a fun experience indeed. Some other screen related goodies include a smooth auto rotation and handwriting recognition.
Camera:
Its 5 megapixel camera provides you with clear, crisp pictures thanks to its flash and autofocus features. While a stronger flash would have resulted in superior colour, it’s still enough to create quality pictures. Other features include wide screen capture, geo tgagging, and a nifty photo album. Video recording abilities are also fairly decent.
Sound:
Similarly, the Legend’s sound quality is wonderful for both phone calls and listening to tunes, with no sign of crackling, tinniness, or distortion. Also included is an FM radio, a quality music player, a sound recorder, and WAV and MIDI ringtones. As with any phone worth its circuitry, it also has a 3.5 mm headphone jack, allowing you to use your favorite headphones. Our only complaint is that we wish we could have had MP3 ringtones as well.
Internet Connectivity:
Connectivity options include 3G HSDPA, HSUPA, Bluetooth A2DP, GPRS, wi-fi, and more, complete with quadband technology to ensure you can use the phone wherever you travel. Also included are SMS, MMS, instant messaging, a quality push email client, and various handy apps such as GPS navigation, Google Maps, Youtube compatibility, Facebook integration, and even a special feature created specifically for Twitter fans: the HTC Peep.
Memory and Talk Time:
With a phone this enormous, it’s no surprise that its battery life is infinitesimal, with only eight hours of talk time and 440 hours standby. However, if you don’t mind being chained to your charger, this shouldn’t be too much of a hassle. Memory includes 512 megabytes of ROM, 384 megabytes of RAM, plus a microSD card giving you 32 whopping gigabytes, leaving you with plenty of memory to store your goodies.
Verdict:
Some widget weirdness aside, the HTC Legend is definitely a phone to consider the next time you’re in the market. Beautiful, fast, and reliable, it provides a user experience you’re not likely to forget.
