A Closer Look
When we first met with the all-new Storm 2, we have to say, we immediately fell in love with its curvy, lustrous design, just as we did with its predecessor. The dimensions of the display and phone itself are pretty much identical to that of the original, so the amendments made by RIM obviously lie deeper than the appearance of the handset.
Although the keyboard is not perfect, it is admittedly a massive improvement upon that of the initial Storm. On screen and clickable, typing is far easier on the Storm 2 than on its sibling – but let’s face it, it wouldn’t exactly be difficult. We found pressing down on the touch screen quite uncomfortable at times, and therefore prefer the slide-out QWERTY keyboards found on other models. Those with large hands beware: the keys aren’t as spacious and well-dedicated as they could be.
On the plus side, we think the world of RIM’s fantastic Sure-Type predictive text technology, which makes the construction of a long email in to a two minute job – quite literally. One finger prodding has been made a thing of the past, as the intelligent Storm 2 has an uncanny knack for accurately guessing what it is you want to type – very much the stuff of dreams.

Although the screen resolution has not been altered on the new release, we did notice that the screen appears brighter, sharper and altogether more attractive. This is down to the all-new, updated BlackBerry OS 5.0 running software, which delivers an excellent user experience through brighter icons, sharper images and easier navigation.
As expected, BlackBerry has delivered outstanding messaging and an e-mail opportunities in the Storm, showing in true style that it really is geared up for the business environment. Pre-installed applications such as BlackBerry Enterprise Server provide the perfect setup for your work and home emails, meaning staying in contact with those near and dear will never become a difficult task.
In all honesty, we were moderately disappointed with the average camera of the new Storm. The 3.2-megapixel camera produced images of a fairly mediocre quality, which summarises our initial thoughts: BlackBerry did not intend to make this phone with the camera as its focal point, but more as an afterthought.
At long last, the BlackBerry Storm 2 has Wi-Fi, unlike its predecessor. The fact that the user is now able to connect to any open network is one of the many improvements BlackBerry have focused upon in the creation of the new model.
All things considered, we like the Storm 2. It’s certainly an improvement upon the original Blackberry Storm, which received a pretty average reception from the modern consumer market.
We think the phone is destined for success, what with its fantastic new running system, great connectivity options and excellent versatility as a messaging device. Overall, we believe BlackBerry have created a modern device with business and communication very much on its mind.
RATING: 4/5 - Here we have it - the most heavily anticipated mobile phone of the year: the BlackBerry Storm 2. The build up to the release of this handset has been hyped beyond belief; so, is the Storm really worthy of the all the fuss? We think it may well be. The new member of the BlackBerry clan excels in almost every aspect: software, performance, design and more. The now on-screen clickable keyboard, new sleek shape, Wi-Fi and excellent video playback are just a few examples of where the brains of BlackBerry have targeted their advancements.
