Blackberry fans will be thrilled with the 8110 Silver, if for one reason: Unlike other mobiles of its kind, it actually comes with a GPS. Combine that with Bluetooth connectivity, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a super slim design, and you have a fairly consumer friendly phone.

Appearance and User Interface:

At 91g, this is a phone that can fit nearly anywhere. It comes in three colours: black, red, and pink. Its 65k colour screen provides bright, vibrant footage, though some may find it a bit small in comparison to other phones.

In regards to overall aesthetics, however, users may be disappointed in that the buttons, shape, and overall style resembles other Blackberry models to the point of looking almost identical. Some have complained that the materials feel fragile and cheaply made.

Its QWERTY keyboard is fairly finger friendly, however, and even comes with a black light to make seeing the keys easier. The SureType Keyboard Software is also a nice touch. Other buttons on the phone remain relatively accessible and easy to press.

If there is one consistent complaint, it is the phone’s user interface. As there is a definite learning curve, this is definitely not a phone for new users. There have also been reports of bugs, freezing, and issues sending and receiving texts.

 
 
Sound:

The phone provides crisp, clear sound, both while talking and while listening to music. Users will enjoy a basic media player, a microphone, built in speakers, voice dialing options, and a speakerphone. The phone also comes with a number of MP3, MIDI, and polyphonic ringtones to choose from.

Unlike so many other phones, the 8110 Silver comes with a 3.5mm jack, allowing you to use the headphones of your choice.

Camera:

When it comes to taking pictures, the camera is pretty bare bones. Along with 2 megapixels, you get a flash, zoom, video recording capabilities, and a screensaver. However, despite the flash and the zoom, the photos tend to be grainy or blurred.

Connectivity:

The 8110 Silver is able to stay connected virtually everywhere thanks to its quad band technology. As for the internet, you get Bluetooth, USB, GPRS, and EDGE. Browsers include a standard HTML as well as RIM® Wireless Modem.

Another nice addition is the GPS feature, which connects quickly and provides you with accurate, convenient info. It’s especially ideal for long trips in the car, on your bike, or even on foot. Blackberry Maps are also available.

Verdict: While the bugs, shoddy camera, and difficult user interface may make the Blackberry 8110 Silver something of a disappointment, the phone’s awesome GPS system, SureType software, 3.5 mm jack, and other features make it worth a second look.
