Blackberry 7130g – The Smart Phone That Really Is

 
When the original Blackberry PDA was first launched, few could have predicted how successful it would become. Yes, it was obviously a wonderful tool for both business users and tech heads alike, but it was fairly bulky and, to be honest, pretty ugly too. Now, however, a few years down the line and its technology has been transferred to mobile phones, and the Blackberry 7130g Smartphone is the perfect hybrid of phone and PDA.

For anyone who has looked at a Blackberry PDA and liked the features but not the size of it, the 7130g is ideal – at almost the same size as a normal mobile phone, it will fit easily into hand or pocket. But that’s where a lot of the similarities to “standard” mobile phones end, and the PDA features of a Blackberry take over.

 
 
Coming with the traditionally large screen that Blackberry are famous for, the 7130g Smartphone allows for easy reading of intricate web pages and email accounts. Combine this with the now commonplace scroll wheel, as well as a button that allows you to go back a page or action, and it’s as easy to use as any laptop. The only possible drawback is that in replacing the QWERTY keyboard of the PDA version, Blackberry have had to out two QWERTY letters on each keypad button, which can lead to some mistaken typing until you’re used to the system.

The memory of the Blackberry 7130g isn’t too shabby either – with a combined 16MB SRAM memory as well as 64MB of flash memory, it allows you to store a hefty amount of information, and access it quickly and easily too. The only downside to the memory, in fact, is that there’s no option available to upgrade the memory, since there isn’t a slot for an SD card or similar.

As is the norm for mobile phones now days, the 7130g offers Bluetooth support, though you should know that this is for audio files only, so data can’t be transferred. This would be frustrating for users if it were not for the easy way to connect the phone to a laptop to go online traditionally – with its own internal modem, you don’t need to have a special data card to link your phone to a laptop or otherwise, meaning that this mobile phone can be used with any brand of laptop and still use the internet, with the benefit of a bigger screen.

Some of the more specific features where the 7130g trounces mobile phones is with the ability to have 10 email accounts; quad-band for truly multinational use; and three different power sources where you can plug your charger into. As well as this, Blackberry provides their normal dedicated servers, which are compatible with IBM, Exchange and Novell, meaning that almost all office software and applications are covered.

The only thing that may stop traditional mobile phone users from buying this is that there is no camera or music player, pretty much a given for many users today. However, the 7130g isn’t aimed at this market, and if you can swap simple songs and pictures for what basically amounts to a mini-computer, you won’t go far wrong with the Blackberry 7130g Smartphone.
